What Color For Your Diamonds

Ohoy, Diamonds diamonds in the sky and what color to choose by!! The fulcrum of a proper jewelry shopping is not the type of setting or hold, neither is the type of metal used, but is, in fact, the Type of Diamond and its color used.

We can find that naturally occurring diamond colors would include gray, white, blue, yellow, orange, red, green, olive, pink, purple, brown, and black. And amongst these, red diamond stones are the rarest and sought after.

The general Fact About Diamond Colors is that the more colorless a diamond is, the more radiant and valuable it will be on account of it being able to reflect the higher spectrum of light and sparkle. And the more color on a diamond is spread, its possibility to refract and reflect natural light diminishes to emit lesser radiance and brilliance. So we can find that colorless diamonds are hugely popular all throughout the world on account of its acceptability as high-end and reverence for sheer luminescence and radiance.

And, for the case of colored diamonds, in comparison to the colorless ones, these are less costly and not much in demand and widely available due to its aspect of not reflecting enough lighting to give 100% sparkle and dazzle.

Many numerous nodal authorities in the world have their own sense of grading and demarcating different types of diamonds to enable people to make the right decision while purchasing diamond jewelry and pay value for money for its visual quality and hue.

The GIA (Gemological Institute of America) diamond grading authority has demarcated and graded diamonds as per the presence of color or any nil of it as under:

  • Colorless: This is that category of diamonds rated and graded in the top on account of it emitting sheer brilliance and sparkle. Also graded as D, E and F, these diamonds have nil scope for any colors and yellow tint, are the rarest, most valuable as well as highly expensive and sought after. The essence of Colorless Diamonds is that these are highly accommodating to any type of setting like flush, bezel, pave, four/six prongs, etc. and any metal type, whether be gold, platinum or cobalt. Further, diamonds graded in the category of E & F colors contain very minute traces of color in comparison to the D categorized diamonds.
  • Near Colorless or G, H, I and J Diamonds: Best to suit a white gold, platinum or palladium ring, no exhibition of color with some meager tints of yellow hue. This category of near colorless diamonds fall next to DEF colorless diamonds and these can be purchased at a comparatively lower cost by around 10-20% per grade. People who want to have very brilliant and pristine sparkle diamonds can opt for this type of diamonds as this color imperfection is not visible to the naked eye and also available for a lesser cost.
  • Faint Tint or K, L, and M: Also called as Warm Colored Diamonds, these faintly tinted diamonds appear with a slight yellow tint to the naked eye, highly preferred for a yellow gold setting, costing around 50% less than the G-J range. K, L and M diamonds are considered as exceptional diamonds and value for money, as these are available for half the price of a G, H, I and J diamonds. Many people make use of these diamonds, for an old vintage styled and traditional ring settings due to the subduedness in the yellow colored hue and shine.
  • Very Light Tint or N,O,P,Q, and R: Also called as top light brown diamonds, this category of diamonds have noticeable yellow and brown tinting and are demanding the lowest, on account of its large supply.
  • Light tint or S-Z, UX and YZ Diamonds: Also called as white color diamonds, these Category of Diamonds are faint yellow and light yellow replacements, highly in ever demand due to its subdued hue of color and great sparkle. Long before was treated as dirty yellow colored stone, these type of diamonds are not considered part of fancy colored diamonds.
